Press Release, August 2009

‘Lights, camera, action!’...in the office

Amateur dramatics has become an award-winning hobby for a Market Harborough business couple.

Chris Lovelock, Managing Director of Market Harborough based company, ICON, and his colleague and wife Sandra both took parts in an educational training film. They also turned their offices over to the film crew for use as a location.

Chris and Sandra have been involved with the Billesdon Drama Society for many years. They both jumped at the chance to take part in the film, being made for the University of Leicester, along with fifteen other members of the society.

“I had quite a large part in the film, which is based in a hospital, as the patient’s son, and Sandra was one of the nurses on the ward,” explained Chris. “I’ve acted in many, many plays, but never been in a film before.”

The film, Mr. Kirby’s Story, is inspired by the case history of a real patient and was made to assist the teaching health and social care students. It won an award in the 2009 Media Festival Awards over in the USA.

The film highlights issues around caring for elderly patients and focuses on the relationships between care professionals, the patient and the patient’s family. Working to a limited budget, the film was made with the generous help of volunteer actors from the Billesdon Drama Society.

“The main scene I am in was actually filmed at ICON’s offices,” explained Chris, “located at The Point in Market Harborough.”

The company has developed the ICON system, a range of utilities to help with the management and collation of data for large building projects.

It’s designed to ensure that all necessary steps are taken and recorded in the project management process, including surveys, health and safety, and CAD libraries. The ICON solution allows the management of construction information during the three key stages of a building’s lifecycle:

• The design and specification of buildings
• The project roll-out of new builds and refurbishments
• The ongoing management of built properties (comprising planning, construction, maintenance and disposal)

Developed in conjunction with design standards and project managers, it provides access to accurate, real-time information for all members of a project delivery team, resulting in improved confidence, communication, safety, efficiency, product quality and budgetary control.
